While others are celebrating St. Patty's Day and desperately trying not to get pinched, I personally feel that I have a better reason than anyone else in the world to celebrate! Today, I am celebrating that there is only 100 more days until I marry my best friend and the love of my life, gain another awesome family, and start my life in Clay County! I'm so blessed!
I really cannot believe we only have 100 days! However, in my eyes that's 100 days too many! Time has really flown since the happiest day of my life, May 15th, 2010 (at least until our wedding day)! I remember when there was 365 days and thought time was moving at turtle speed! I'm so ready to FINALLY hit the double digits tomorrow! Hurry time!
Adam and I are so blessed to have friends and family offer to host showers and parties for us during this special time in our lives. We have already received so many wonderful gifts and we are so so so thankful for each and every person that has attended a shower as well as for what they have given. So far, we have had 2 showers.
The first shower was a "First Married Christmas" shower. It was a small shower in Auburn. And yes it was Christmas in February! I loved it! I registered for Christmas china so I was able to get many pieces of it at this shower! I was so excited! One of my best friends and bridesmaids hosted it! Thanks Sam!!!!
The other shower was a monogramming shower. I loved it too of course! Adam's cousins (Ashley and Natalie) and his sister (Jenny) hosted it. I'm loving all the "H"s I got! Makes it so real. I'm really going to be a Harris soon! We got some really great gifts at that shower too!
The Guests... The Gifts... The Goodies & Hostesses (Jenny, Ashley, Me, Natalie)... As I said before, we are so appreciative of everything everyone has done for us so far and the things planned for us in the future!
One more thing to share. A few weeks ago, I FINALLY went and picked up my dress! That really made everything seem real! Here is a picture from the day! Everything is coming together slowly. I'm just getting more and more excited with each passing day! I really can't wait!
Yes, I am well aware this post is more than 2 months late. This posting is mostly for me to remember so feel free to read on to the above posts. :) As always, school has owned my life for the last few months so I am very behind on the blog. Needless to say, I am failing miserably at my New Year's resolution of being a better blogger.
I'm posting only a few pictures from the highlights of the trip, but there is a slide show at the end with tons more pictures...again, mostly for me.
Well, it happened! Auburn won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in Glendale, Arizona and we were there to witness it! We had so much fun! My entire family went...my parents, brothers, sister-in-law (Rachel), Adam, and a family friend (Troy). I suppose I should start with addressing my fear of flying since that pretty much consumed the bulk of my previous post about the trip. It wasn't THAT BAD. The first flight, I was a little wacky and of course any time we hit turbulence. I don't really think my anxiety has improved, just my ability to hide it. Overall, the flights were fine (I'm alive, right?), but I still hate flying. (I sure do wish Adam and I could drive to Antigua. That's where we are going for our honeymoon.) I guess the one thing that made it better was the many Auburn fans we were flying with. All of our flights were literally filled Auburn people. When we landed our first flight in Vegas, they played the fight song over the loud speaker. Everyone got out their AU shakers and were singing. It truly was a moment I will never forget!
Now on to the trip...We left from the Atlanta airport on Saturday and flew into Las Vegas where we stayed one night. I had never been to Vegas so it was fun/interesting. I played the slot machines (which are addicting by the way! Now I know why people have addictions to gambling). I'm happy to say I broke even and even made a few dollars. I'd also like to go on the record to say, I really have no desire to go back to Sin City, but I guess I can at least say I've been there.
On Sunday, we got in the car and drove to Phoenix/Glendale which is only a few hours away. On the way, we stopped to see the Hoover Dam. It was pretty neat. The pictures don't really do it justice. After the drive and all the sight seeing, we were ready for bed! GAME DAY! Monday! We woke up to the excitement of knowing we were going to leave that place CHAMPIONS. (That was until the game started and it was so close. TOO CLOSE!) We tailgated all day and walked around. We ran into tons of friends. Finally, the game started and a few short hours later (which seemed like eternity because of the score) Auburn became the National Champs! 22-19 against the Oregon Ducks! WAAAR EAGLE! HEY! Now I hate to say this, but after we won and the excitement died down I was ready to get back to Alabama. Little did I know that this was not going to happen for another 2 days. If you remember, this was during the blizzard. We were scheduled to fly home on Tuesday. Our first flight was from Phoenix to Denver then another from Denver to Atlanta. Well, we made it to to Denver, but then got stranded. The flight to Atlanta was cancelled and we couldn't get another until Wednesday. I could go on for days about the chaos that erupted in Denver, but I won't. I'll just leave it at...they lost my mom's luggage and we in no shape, form, or fashion had adequate or appropriate clothing for Denver's -4 degree weather. Who knew we would be spending time there? We packed for Arizona!
Wednesday, we finally left Denver and made it home. It was the trip of a lifetime and I'm so glad we went. I'm so proud of the Tigers and to be a part of the AU family and tradition!!! I also have to mention this...Sadly, a few weeks after the big win, the AU community was saddened when the news broke about one of Auburn's longest standing traditions was put in danger when a crazy man (sorry, but he is) poisoned the oak trees at Toomer's Corner. If you don't know why this is important, let me tell you. The tradition stands that after any win by Auburn, the fans go to Toomer's Corner and roll the big oak trees with toilet paper. It has been said that many many years ago, the Toomer's Drug Store located on the opposite corner from the oak trees was the only place to have telecommunication and that when the Auburn football team went on the road to play away games and won, the people of the drug store would throw stuff in those SAME TREES to signify to the public that Auburn had won the game! This is a picture of Toomer's after the National Championship win. Isn't it "Plain" beautiful? And if you have even read this far and have time to watch this video, PLEASE DO! It's worth watching. Promise! It is a time lapse video set to the fight song of Toomer's being rolled after the National Championship. It gives you an idea just how big of a deal rolling Toomer's really is to Auburn fans. The poisoning of the trees was sad news to all Auburn fans everywhere, but the Auburn family will continue to live out it's traditions no matter what whether new trees are planted or the old trees survive. This is why I'm a proud Auburn Alum and why "I Believe in Auburn and Love it!" War Eagle!
I am one blessed girl! Originally from Troy, Alabama, I graduated from Charles Henderson High School in 2004 then headed to Auburn University for 8 years where I first received my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences followed by a Doctorate of Pharmacy. I now work for Wal-Mart as a pharmacist in Talladega, AL. In June 2011, I married the love of my life Adam. Adam is originally from Ashland, Alabama AKA "Clay County" according to the locals. He is a 2002 graduate of Clay County High School. We met in 2005 at "the loveliest village on the plains" of Auburn where Adam also attended college and earned a Bachelors degree in Business Administration-Finance. He currently works in real estate and development. We are expecting our first child Knox Christopher in March of 2014 and couldn't be more excited! Overall, we live a simple life at the end of a dirt road on the top of a mountain in the boondocks of Clay County and life couldn't be better! God Bless! And War Eagle!
