Once we returned from our luxurious honeymoon, my days of being Mrs. Harris consisted of sleeping late...waking up around 9 or so to enjoy my morning coffee. Then in no particular order, cleaning the dishes, finding all of our wonderful gifts a "home" within our home, organizing everything, laundry, writing thousands of "thank you" notes (still not done), playing on Facebook, watching a little TV, changing my name (which by the way is now Adrianne Elise Bazzell Harris. They make you keep your whole name now because of all the identity theft out there! Darn thieves!) At some point during the day, LuLu and I would hop on the 4-wheeler and ride approximately 1.5 miles to get the mail and return home to continue the chores that little "wifies" do and wait for Adam to come home. May not sound exciting to you, but the month I had off from school after the wedding was truly wonderful.
I eventually returned to reality and started back rotations on August 1st where I went to Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. My days consisted of waking up at 4 am and getting home around 4 pm to work on more school work. BUT, I LOVED my rotation!!!! I rounded with a pulmonologist in the critical care units. I learned so much. It was also very humbling. It's heartbraking to see family members and friends lose their loved ones. On the brighter side, it was very rewarding to see patients who were so fragile and sick leave the ICU and eventually go home. I was sad to have to leave Princeton, but that's part of school I guess.
This week, I started at Covington Healthcare in Birmingham. It is a totally different aspect of pharmacy and a complete change of pace. I have to be at work at 9 am and leave at 4 pm (3 pm on Fridays...Whoo hoo). It is a drug information rotation so I mostly sit at a computer and write drug reviews and articles for a health newsletter, make documents for Black Box Warnings, and other such work. I miss the hands on patient interaction that I enjoy, but I am loving the much more relaxed environment and work hours. Translation= less stress, more sleep.
Getting the opportunity to work at many different sites in many different areas of pharmacy has been very helpful in sifting through what I like and don't like about pharmacy. I look forward to my future rotations and learning as much as I can while I can.
In the meantime when I'm not working, I'll be working on my platform which is our big project we do in the 4th year of pharmacy school. The topic of my platform is Therapeutic Hypothermia and sadly I'm pretty excited about it! But, don't let me fool you. That's not all I'll be doing in my free time. I also plan to enjoy some COLLEGE FOOTBALL (AUBURN FOOTBALL). I can't believe it's that time again! Adam and I went to the game last weekend! It was a nailbiter for sure! So glad we won and I'm hoping for a repeat this weekend against Miss St! WDE!
